Impacts may provide heat for aqueous alteration and organic solid formation on asteroid parent bodies

چکیده

Abstract Chemical reactions on asteroid parent bodies, such as aqueous alteration and the formation of organic solids, require a heat source. Radioactive decay in interiors these bodies is generally considered most important source, but impact-generated heating also likely to play role. Here we present high-velocity impact cratering experiments using thermocouples embedded target material directly measure spatial temporal evolution temperature throughout each experiment. We find that maximum below crater floor scales with distance from point, while duration rise scaled by thermal diffusion time. use numerical modelling suggest that, at distances within 2 astronomical units, impacts producing craters >20 km radius can facilitate crater, those which produce 1 support solid formation.

Temperatures of Aqueous Alteration on Cm Chondrite Parent Bodies Based on Carbonate ‘clumped-isotope’ Thermometry

Introduction: Aqueous alteration of primitive meteorites was among the earliest differentiation processes in the solar system [1], and a better understanding of it would help constrain and test models of the thermal and chemical evolution of planetesimals. One of the challenges is to establish the temperatures of alteration. Petrographic analysis of CM matrices [2] suggest their temperatures of...

Carbon and nitrogen isotope ratios in meteoritic organic matter: indicators of alteration processes on the parent asteroid

Macromolecular organic materials in chondrites display significant variations in carbon and nitrogen stable isotopes. In recent years, these variations have been interpreted as a record of aqueous and thermal processing on asteroids shortly after the birth of the Solar System. In this paper we review and summarize the key data and main interpretative approaches related to this study area. Armed...

Enrichment of the amino acid L-isovaline by aqueous alteration on CI and CM meteorite parent bodies.

The distribution and enantiomeric composition of the 5-carbon (C(5)) amino acids found in CI-, CM-, and CR-type carbonaceous meteorites were investigated by using liquid chromatography fluorescence detection/TOF-MS coupled with o-phthaldialdehyde/N-acetyl-L-cysteine derivatization. A large L-enantiomeric excess (ee) of the alpha-methyl amino acid isovaline was found in the CM meteorite Murchiso...
